The Lost Bow Tour

Please welcome author P.H. Solomon to my blog today!  I’m thrilled to help him promote his book The Bow of Destiny.

BOD Final.jpg

Haunted by his past. Hunted in the present. Uncertain what is real.

Athson has seen things that aren’t there and suffered fits since being tragically orphaned as a child at the hands of trolls and Corgren the wizard. When a strange will mentioning a mysterious bow comes into his possession, he’s not sure it’s real. But the trolls that soon pursue him are all too real and dangerous. And what’s worse, these raiders serve Corgren and his master, the hidden dragon, Magdronu, who are responsible for the destruction of his childhood home. Athson is drawn into a quest for the concealed Bow of Hart by the mystic Withling, Hastra, but Athson isn’t always sure what’s real and who his enemies are. With Corgren and Magdronu involved, Athson must face not only frequent danger but his grasp on reality and the reasons behind his tragic past.

The Bow of Destiny is, at its heart, an adventure quest to find a special bow. Where is it? Who has it? Why is truly special? Is the main character meant to possess it and, if so, to what end?

Few people know anything certain about the bow. The Lost Bow Tour leads you on the path to begin finding out all the secrets that lie in The Bow of Destiny. The world of Denaria is open to everyone to begin discovering answers to the questions and enjoy the adventure of this fantasy quest.

The Raging River

Well, here we are further along in the Troll Neath about to cross a raging underground river on a rope bridge! What’s that? It’s hard to hear over that roaring falls over on the left. Is it safe? Well, mostly but this isn’t the Troll Neath for nothing. But it’s a good thing you wore those arm floaties even though they don’t really fit the fantasy motif.

I slap you on the back – and, no, that’s not a “kick-me” sign or target. Better get moving, everyone’s crossing and your last at the moment! You’re walking on a stone ramp on what appears to be the remains of a broken bridge. The replacement rope bridge sways as the others in the group gain the far side, while Makwi, the black-bearded dwarf, hangs back.

Something whizzes past and you glance over your shoulder as you follow the dark-bearded dwarf. Trolls! Goblins shooting arrows – at you! The dwarf chops the rope in two on one side with his axe. He raises the axe toward the remaining rope.

You scramble after the dwarf as more arrows slice past. He grabs the remaining rope and chops it away. You lunge and grab the dwarf’s belt as the bridge slides away. As you slip over the edge something grabs one of your legs. A tusked troll is pulled over with you.

There are a few heartbeats with only the sound of roaring water. Splash! The water is icy. You clutch the dwarf and the troll pulls on your leg.

The dwarf glances at you and shouts, “Kick!”

You kick the troll, once in the chin. Did his grip loosen?

Arrows splash around you.

You kick again and catch that pig-faced troll in the snout. Blood gushes away in the water. Good job! You kick again and land a solid blow with your heel on his tusk and the troll slips away. Even better job.

Overhead, arrows slash the air from either side. A goblin falls pierced into the water, then another.

But your grasp is slipping. Your fingers are cold and stiff like you’ve been in the water for hours instead of racing moments.

Makwi looks you straight in the eye. “Hold on! Hope my belt holds!”

You reach for a rope while overhead, a huge man heaves the bridge out of the water. It’s Ralda, the giant! He must be very strong even with help from the others. More goblin archers fall to the deadly aim of Athson and Gweld.

Finally, you’re lifted out of the water. You’re shivering and you can’t feel your hands so you watch as your trembling grip weakens. You look back at the dark water rushing below your feet. Seriously! Why do you keep looking down?

Makwi snares your hand and a few arrows strike the remains of the original bridge and bounce away. But there’s fewer of those goblin arrow thanks to Athson and Gweld. In moments, Ralda heaves with a roar and hands pull you to safety.

You lie shaking on the stone of the old bridge gasping and shivering.

Beside you Makwi laughs – actually laughs. Is he mad? Makwi gives Ralda a solid pat and says, “Told you I had it!”

Ralda groans with an arrow in his arm. The old Withling, Hastra, moves beside him and murmurs a prayer you don’t understand. Yes, Ralda took an arrow for you! Better send him a Christmas card this year, maybe and Amazon Gift Card!

Now that’s what I call a “raging river ride” Denaria-style. Well, that wasn’t so much a ride as an experience! Ever tried that trick of gripping wet rope with cold, stiff hands while trolls shoot arrows at you? How about that fancy troll-kickin’?

Makwi laughs and peels something off your back and shows it to you. It was a target! You glare daggers at me.

Hey, you gotta get the whole experience, don’t you? Don’t take it personally, just having a little fun. Besides, those goblins couldn’t hit you in the backside with a bass fiddle! I think… Anyway, see you tomorrow for a little talk while you get dried off.

Maybe I should have named this, “Troll River Ride”, or “The Great Goblin Shoot”!

The Fantasy Freebooting Tour – Part 3

Please welcome author Jan Hawke as she continues her tour here today!

Even if I wasn’t a graphic designer by trade, as every author knows (whether or not they’re a best-selling one!), books are judged by their covers, especially if it’s a bad one!

Once I’d decided on my quirky title for A Freebooter’s Fantasy Almanac, I then had to think long and hard about how to convey what’s in the book visually. With fantasy to the fore in the title, this left me with a certain amount of leeway for interpreting the buccaneering approach to imaginative reinvention… There was also the ‘real world’ aspect, in that fantasy writing and roleplay was wonderful therapy for my recovery and reconstruction of my true personality. Whatever made the cover had to reflect those themes strongly.

I knew I didn’t want to use any of my fan-art relating to Jano or to Middle Earth, because it there was so much else involved that called on other myths, legends and mindscapes that had delighted, fascinated and taught me life-lessons since I was a small child. Real life teaches us that good isn’t always triumphant, and that the flip side of dreaming is having nightmares. So I started to ponder on the nature of fate and the fantastic. On how life can also take you to places you never expected, or even wanted to go to.

Almost inevitably this led me to some illustrations for the tarot that I’d made about 5 years ago. The ones I thought of most in relation to the prolonged and deep-seated struggle I’d had with depression, meant that I gravitated to the images for The Hanged Man, the King of Swords, The Hierophant or Seer, and the Tower of Destruction.

You can see the original pieces for these four cards here –

I concentrated on those four cards, because they all scoped in the freebooting concept in some way (The Hierophant was inspired by Odin, the one-eyed Allfather of Norse myth, which also has strong links to Middle Earth). However, because I’d chosen a lighthouse and a wild seascape, complete with white horses in the waves and Poseidon in the background for the Tower, this literally blasted the competition out of the water with its connotations of catastrophic events and fantasmagorical creatures! How much swash-buckling can you take?

Typography is another of my passions. My father was a traditional sign-writer and maker, so fonts had always been on my radar, along with paint and brushes from the moment I could hold a crayon. Because my brand of fantasy leans very much to the gothic and often the ‘romantic’, I chose two distinct styles to fuse together into a pleasing assemblage with the imagery. and my cover solution was complete!

Siân Glírdan is the fusion persona of the elven roleplay character, Janowyn (Jano), High Bard of the River Kingdom and her ‘real world’ creator, author, Jan Hawke. Glírdan is the elven word for ‘songsmith’, and Siân is a Welsh variant of Jan (in case you were wondering!).
When it became obvious to Jan that Jano had a far better handle than she could ever have on writing in the fantasy genres, Siân was born, fully formed and raring to go.  A Freebooter’s Fantasy Almanac, which is basically the manual on how Jano was brought into being and developed, is Siân and Jano’s first official collaboration. They’re currently working hard on an epic future fantasy series, Tomes of the Havenlands, loosely based on the ancient Celtic world. The first volume should reach the shelves at the end of 2016.

A Freebooter’s Fantasy Almanac back blurb

This is poetry, wrapped in fantasy, within a memoir… Or, to put it another way, it’s a true tale that might well apply to many fantasy fans and gamers who can’t be bothered with keeping their realities separated from their more lurid imaginings.
In my case, this is a sort of ‘real’ cyberspace profiling, during a phase of my life when roleplay truly did need to be therapy, because what was happening around me for real was not what I wanted to participate in. So, buckle up your swash and prepare to witness a titanic battle played out on the field of sanity – where what happens in your head is the only truth that matters.

Power coiled through him. Roughly, he hauled her to the bed. Her back met the mattress and he positioned himself above her. He spread her thighs wider with his knees. She curled her hands over his broad shoulders, feeling the muscles clench and tighten under her palms.

He stilled above her. The thick head of his cock nudged the swollen folds.

Amidst the addictive hunger, there was something more. Something Zoe didn’t want to speculate on. For a moment, apprehension edged at her arousal.

“Say it, Zoe. Say you’re mine.”

It was a claiming.

He was claiming her.

And she desperately wanted to belong.

“I’m yours,” she whispered.

He thrust into her, working himself deeper, his gaze locked with hers. She gasped and gripped his shoulders tighter. He eased back, then pushed inside her again, slowly, deeply. He filled her perfectly.

“Mine,” he growled. “My mate.”

“Yes.” She was fighting to breathe. Fighting to make sense of the sensations tearing through her.

His hips jerked hard, burying himself inside of her.

“You need to say it back to me, angel.”

“My mate,” she whimpered, feeling a new surge of energy pulsating through her body. A brilliant array of color, pleasure, sensations vibrated through her. For a brief, intense moment, she felt as if her body and soul merged with his, and her senses exploded with the pleasure of it.

His cock throbbed inside her, thick and hard, stretching the sensitive tissue. Electric pulses began to race through her body. Jack’s jaw clenched, fighting for control. He pulled back, then slammed in, harder, deeper. Impaling her with swift, hard strokes.

She dug her nails into his shoulders and gasped. Her vision darkened as she cried out with her release. The pleasure broke her. Every neuron in her body seemed to explode in ecstasy.

The vortex burst, sending violent waves of energy ricocheting off the walls. She heard Jack’s shout, felt the overpowering pleasure of his release pulsating inside her.

Closing her eyes, Zoe held onto him and knew nothing would ever be the same again.

She was lost to him.

Review for The Descendants by K.K. Allen

The Descendants

5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This third book was very enjoyable, I loved it just as much as the first two. There is romance, magic, beaches, mermaids, evil… a little something for everyone. I loved the family connections between all the generations on Summer Island. There are some great surprises in this one and I was in tears toward the end. This book is a fun, exciting ride and I definitely recommend the entire Summer Solstice Series!kk
