Athson has seen things that aren’t there and suffered fits since being tragically orphaned as a child at the hands of trolls and Corgren the wizard. When a strange will mentioning a mysterious bow comes into his possession, he’s not sure it’s real. But the trolls that soon pursue him are all too real and dangerous. And what’s worse, these raiders serve Corgren and his master, the hidden dragon, Magdronu, who are responsible for the destruction of his childhood home. Athson is drawn into a quest for the concealed Bow of Hart by the mystic Withling, Hastra, but Athson isn’t always sure what’s real and who his enemies are. With Corgren and Magdronu involved, Athson must face not only frequent danger but his grasp on reality and the reasons behind his tragic past.

 

Introduction

 The Bow of Destiny is, at its heart, an adventure quest to find a special bow. Where is it? Who has it? Why is truly special? Is the main character meant to possess it and, if so, to what end?

 Few people know anything certain about the bow. The Lost Bow Tour leads you on the path to begin finding out all the secrets that lie in The Bow of Destiny. The world of Denaria is open to everyone to begin discovering answers to the questions and enjoy the adventure of this fantasy quest.

 

The Raging River

Well, here we are further along in the Troll Neath about to cross a raging underground river on a rope bridge! What’s that? It’s hard to hear over that roaring falls over on the left. Is it safe? Well, mostly but this isn’t the Troll Neath for nothing. But it’s a good thing you wore those arm floaties even though they don’t really fit the fantasy motif.

I slap you on the back – and, no, that’s not a “kick-me” sign or target. Better get moving, everyone’s crossing and your last at the moment! You’re walking on a stone ramp on what appears to be the remains of a broken bridge. The replacement rope bridge sways as the others in the group gain the far side, while Makwi, the black-bearded dwarf, hangs back.

Something whizzes past and you glance over your shoulder as you follow the dark-bearded dwarf. Trolls! Goblins shooting arrows – at you! The dwarf chops the rope in two on one side with his axe. He raises the axe toward the remaining rope.

What?!

You scramble after the dwarf as more arrows slice past. He grabs the remaining rope and chops it away. You lunge and grab the dwarf’s belt as the bridge slides away. As you slip over the edge something grabs one of your legs. A tusked troll is pulled over with you.

There are a few heartbeats with only the sound of roaring water. Splash! The water is icy. You clutch the dwarf and the troll pulls on your leg.

The dwarf glances at you and shouts, “Kick!”

You kick the troll, once in the chin. Did his grip loosen?

Arrows splash around you.

You kick again and catch that pig-faced troll in the snout. Blood gushes away in the water. Good job! You kick again and land a solid blow with your heel on his tusk and the troll slips away. Even better job.

Overhead, arrows slash the air from either side. A goblin falls pierced into the water, then another.

But your grasp is slipping. Your fingers are cold and stiff like you’ve been in the water for hours instead of racing moments.

Makwi looks you straight in the eye. “Hold on! Hope my belt holds!”

You reach for a rope while overhead, a huge man heaves the bridge out of the water. It’s Ralda, the giant! He must be very strong even with help from the others. More goblin archers fall to the deadly aim of Athson and Gweld.

Finally, you’re lifted out of the water. You’re shivering and you can’t feel your hands so you watch as your trembling grip weakens. You look back at the dark water rushing below your feet. Seriously! Why do you keep looking down?

Makwi snares your hand and a few arrows strike the remains of the original bridge and bounce away. But there’s fewer of those goblin arrow thanks to Athson and Gweld. In moments, Ralda heaves with a roar and hands pull you to safety.

You lie shaking on the stone of the old bridge gasping and shivering.

Beside you Makwi laughs – actually laughs. Is he mad? Makwi gives Ralda a solid pat and says, “Told you I had it!”

Ralda groans with an arrow in his arm. The old Withling, Hastra, moves beside him and murmurs a prayer you don’t understand. Yes, Ralda took an arrow for you! Better send him a Christmas card this year, maybe and Amazon Gift Card!

Now that’s what I call a “raging river ride” Denaria-style. Well, that wasn’t so much a ride as an experience! Ever tried that trick of gripping wet rope with cold, stiff hands while trolls shoot arrows at you? How about that fancy troll-kickin’?

Makwi laughs and peels something off your back and shows it to you. It was a target! You glare daggers at me.

Hey, you gotta get the whole experience, don’t you? Don’t take it personally, just having a little fun. Besides, those goblins couldn’t hit you in the backside with a bass fiddle! I think… Anyway, see you tomorrow for a little talk while you get dried off.

Maybe I should have named this, “Troll River Ride”, or “The Great Goblin Shoot”!

About the Author

P.H. Solomon lives in the greater Birmingham, AL area where he strongly dislikes yard work and sanding the deck rail. However, he performs these duties to maintain a nice home for his loved ones as well as the family’s German Shepherds. In his spare time, P. H. rides herd as a Computer Whisperer on large computers called servers (harmonica not required). Additionally, he enjoys reading, running, most sports and fantasy football. Having a degree in Anthropology, he also has a wide array of more “serious” interests in addition to working regularly to hone his writing.
